This one-day garden design workshop invites you to explore ideas and solutions to various garden design challenges working with Helen Taylor and Nicky Dyson, experienced garden design tutors.

What you will explore

We invite you to bring in photos and information about your own garden project. Working as a group, we will highlight common design challenges from your own garden projects and focus on brainstorming and solutions to help you develop the potential of your garden. The day will be informal and relaxed and you’re free to observe or get involved in the design discussions.

We will provide all sketching materials, garden and plant books for design inspiration.

Food and drinks are available from the café downstairs, including lunch, which we will eat together in the workshop space.

What you will achieve:

We will illustrate the design process, the client brief, and design ideas with a couple of garden projects to give you guidance and inspiration to enable you to feel more equipped to make design changes to your own garden.

We will help you develop your own brief consisting of all the things you might want to consider in your garden.

You will be introduced to the principles of garden design and how to think about the space available considering sun and shade, views and screening, focal points and features, paths and paving and the types of planting.

The Tutors

Helen Taylor MA MSGD, Ilkley based garden designer has run her own successful garden design practice for over 25 years and has a broad portfolio of beautiful gardens across Yorkshire. Helen has lead and supported several garden and planting design courses locally.

Nicky Dyson BA Dip LA CMLI qualified as a landscape architect in 1997 and worked for leading practices in London. She teaches regularly at landscape design schools and designs gardens alongside an illustration business.

Skill Level: Suitable for all.
