Inspired by the designer's family pottery, now long closed, this garden recreates a corner of the potter's yard, imagining this once curated space after years of abandonment. An aging display stand takes centre stage, pots overflowing with herbs and perennials. Climbers and trailing plants colonise the framework, showcasing scammony and nasturtiums. The surrounding planting reflects a wilder style, as if untouched for years, drought-tolerant and left to self-seed in the coarse grit substrate. A palette of greens and yellows from Salvia officinalis 'Icterina' is given height with Nepeta govaniana, offset with fine-textured bronze Panicum virgatum and fennel. The desire-line pathway is being gently encroached upon. A long-dry pond dips away from the path edge, with thymes, fennel and Spanish poppies flourishing; from santolina and yarrow emerge the remains of a tumbling fountain, formed from broken pots. A garden thriving and finding its own way, with little outside involvement.
