Silver Gilt Medal
The garden is inspired by one of the richest and most diverse environments in nature - the edges of woodlands. The design is mostly made from wood-based materials and aims to inspire creativity, encourage a connection with the trees, and curiosity for the outdoors. Handcrafted branch features will be made using more than twenty species of trees, shrubs and some dry flowers, all carefully collected from woodlands and gardens.
The main feature is the boundary itself, including a large woven wall, branch and log trenches and a living willow wall to create a cosy and secluded space for relaxation. The woven wall base is a dry hedge, which supports habitat for wildlife and invertebrates as well as protecting the soil. The slow decay and the organic matter created as the hedges break down will provide mulch and compost for beneficial growing conditions, to continue with the natural woodland cycle.
