Creating theatre in a show garden is very important to me as a designer as visitors to my spaces should be able to fully Immerse themselves in the world and feel like the main character! So it made complete sense to me to make the 'Hay Fever' garden a film set, where the actors have just wrapped on the campaign trailer.
To bring this concept to life, I've chosen to blur the lines between what is set and what is real life with areas of the garden being styled with crew equipment. The decision is for the visitor to make.
The period nature of the original Hay Fever play inspired the more traditional planting scheme, with blousy roses, colourful perennials and the feeling of high summer in the borders at the characters rural estate, but with a more phemian and wild twist in keeping with the film set concept. Plants are styled to create photogenic moments as they would be on a set, rather than to create a realistic garden structure.
