The house and gardens are full of surprises and the site as a whole embodies a sense of discovery and revelation. Our design intention for the garden and external spaces was to retain and enhance this character, creating a garden that keeps its privacy whilst simultaneously opening up a sense of space; a garden that contains an element of surprise whilst revealing new vistas and viewpoints; a garden that is relaxed and comfortable for family fun whilst retaining a sense of grandeur that befits the scale of the house.
By simplifying the basic layout of the garden, rationalising and simplifying levels the garden is opened up to the functions of play, socialising and relaxation.
The new levels, supported by the structural lines of pleached hedging, create greater privacy and the rejuvenation of materials and planting gives the garden a new lease of life.
The garden won the Grand Award at the BALI awards 2018 and the Principal Award in the residential category over 250k
In addition it won the Hardscape award at the 2019 SGD awards
