"Once upon a time" transports me back to childhood and the world of fairytales. My border is set in the magical twilight hours as the world slips into sleep. Colours fade into shades of dark and light, and the sense of scent heightens. My border is a space in which to dream when the light is fading. Glowing white branches of Himalayan birch reach over floriferous globe hydrangea, highlighted against the dark foliage of twining star jasmine. The moon window gives visitors a view into the peaceful space within. Plants are chosen for flowers and foliage that will glow. Spires of white foxgloves, strongly associated with fairy folklore, are interspersed throughout the planting. Sweet hesperis, star jasmine and nicotiana come alive with scent in the evening. Lavender is placed next to the hammock where it will release its soothing scent whenever it is brushed past. The crescent hammock beckons.
