A naturalistic garden features a teal patina sculpture of a woman with a wide-brimmed hat holding a bouquet, amidst silver birch trees, lush green foliage, purple flowers, and a winding gravel path.

About this garden

The story

Empowering at Every Step brings visitors on a journey through the cancer landscape in Ireland - raising awareness, encouraging action where possible, highlighting support, and advocating for greater access to screening.

At its centre, charred timber creates a powerful visual reminder of cancer's impact across our society. Pathways reflect individual journeys, recognising that every experience is different and that small, positive steps can make a meaningful difference.

The planting scheme draws on colours associated with the five most common cancers in Ireland - yellow for skin cancer, pink for breast, blue for prostate, white for lung and green for bowel - grounding the garden in the reality of cancer and the many people affected.

A seating area offers space to pause, while a suspended net symbolises the support structures that carry people through.

Grounded in evidence and lived experience, the garden reinforces a clear truth: awareness, prevention, screening and early diagnosis save lives.
