Enchanted Garden

Designed by James Burness
About this garden

The story

This border is inspired by childhood memories of walking in the woods. The thrill of exploration and the fear of getting lost. It reflects on the belief that if you strayed from the path and walked far enough through the brush and bracken, you would find an enchanted garden. The place folklore and myth take root in the imagination. This border is a call to action for adults to rediscover the wonder in the world as we did as children.
Designed as a part shade, spring border which will flourish as the season progresses with the use of plants such as Actea for their stunning spring foliage and colour.
Sustainability is an important part of the design, I will be using locally sourced leaf mould to enrich, protect and hold moisture in the soil while supporting the forest floor ecosystem. Also, sourcing reclaimed stones from a local business.
