About this garden

The story

My garden is designed for my autistic son with recognition of the struggle he has to visit new places. Often its easy to overlook the time needed for him to overcome his anxiety of unfamiliar places. We only process a small portion of our surroundings whereas Matthew takes everything in at once and becomes overwhelmed. I’m reminded that time is needed for Matthew to process new places. I want Matthew to experience nature from his safe space, so I’ve included plants for birds, bees and butterflies and a small nature pond. The plants use are nontoxic, tactile and aromatic.
