About this garden

The story

This Mediterranean garden is designed for a busy, young, professional couple, who have a small outdoor space in their first home. They would like a low-maintenance garden in which they can relax and spend time outdoors. To create fluidity between the indoor and outdoor living spaces, the garden features the same potted plants, cushions and rugs as the indoor space. Continuity is created with the flooring, while the walls are rendered and painted white. Three statement plants, Arbutus unedo (strawberry tree), Chamaerops humilis (Mediterranean fan palm) and Trachycarpus fortunei (chusan palm) serve to create a relaxing, holiday vibe in the garden. Some of the Mediterranean plants featured are tender in a British climate, and therefore are planted in pots so that they can be moved indoors in the winter.
