New Beginnings

Working in a trauma informed way 'It Takes A City' helps build successful pathways from street to home. I have used this sentiment in my design which coincides with the theme of 'Once Upon A Time' as every persons life tells a story.

There are many reasons why people find themselves on the streets from relationship breakdowns, job losses, severe mental health issues, release from prison and I believe everyone deserves respect and opportunities in life to be a valued part of society and be able to play their part in it.

I have interpreted this literally with a pavement turning into a path with hope and ending with gravel leading to a home.The hard initial surface becoming softer and broken down. I have used trees with symbolism of the old and new and plants with sensory and therapeutic qualities.

I have been volunteering with 'It Takes A City' and have experienced first hand the benefits of horticulture as therapy.
