My first recollection of a garden was my granddad's, Henry "Harry" Bull. Harry had three loves in his life, my grandmother, his boxer dog "Beauty" and fuchsias. He was a member of the Fuchsia Society and, while he gardened in a very regimented way, he relaxed his style as he got older. His dog, Beauty, was very fond of bringing wildlife into the house, most notably frogs and hedgehogs - there seemed to be an ever lasting supply.
If he were alive today, I'm convinced that he would still love fuchsias, he'd modernise his planting and he'd wonder where the wildlife had gone. A design of two halves, one with cool colours and one with hot, separated by a cattle trough pond to attract frogs and thick with foliage to provide cover for hedgehogs. The height is given by two large grasses with a selection of bushy and trailing fuchsias accompanied by an array of grasses and seasonal flowering plants and, punctuated with hebe 'green globe' as a nod to the formality of traditional gardens that Harry loved to see in his own garden.
This is a garden that spans the generations!
