One Element

Introducing One Element, a new balcony feature at RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival on behalf of The RHS. We are creating a storyboard historic balcony setting with a contemporary edge, nestled into the surrounding landscape inspired by waterside settings and architecture. Linking indoor and outdoor spaces through plants and materials representing true and achievable outdoor living. Environmental handprint and a positive approach to our use of natural capital is key to the philosophy of the garden, coupled with innovation on water use and the modern application of historic methods in sustainable construction.

Exploring the senses through perspective and a feeling of immersion in the realistic and achievable planting, with a serene palette combining textures and colour through the life cycle of plants. The feature tree species are known for their preservation and benefit to soil, maximising their retention qualities and dealing with associated seasonal flood risks we are facing as a result of climate change.

One Element explores how water can be re-used in a domestic setting for horticultural purposes. Many elements of the balcony garden have been designed to highlight ways in which we can work towards eliminating single use water in our homes.
