About this garden

The story

The Cubes - a collaboration between Will Young and Jamie Butterworth

These garden spaces explore the Jungian journey from shadow into light. Through three distinct planting atmospheres, the spaces reflect the emotional and psychological transition from introspection and concealment to openness, vitality and possibility

Beneath the Canopy

A deeply immersive garden inspired by the Jungian shadow self -the hidden parts of our psyche that exist beneath consciousness. Dense, layered planting creates a quiet and introspective atmosphere of deep shadow and mystery, evoking retreat and the beginning of the journey inward.

Where the Light Falls

A transitional garden shaped by filtered sunlight and shifting shadow. The planting feels lighter and more open, symbolising the moment where shadow and persona begin to meet, and unconscious aspects of the self emerge into awareness.

Into the Open

An open, naturalistic planting scheme celebrating exposure and awakening. Meadow-like drifts of grasses and perennials represent the movement into full light, where shadows begin to lift and new perspectives emerge. The garden reflects an ongoing journey of growth, openness and possibility.
