The profusion of plant life that is nurtured both indoors and out at Petersham Nurseries gives a multitude of signature motifs that lend themselves naturally to this Houseplant Studio. The elegant conservatory at Petersham House was foremost in the mind of the designer initially - a beautifully simple space populated by an established collection of plants, which enclose the visitor and give the impression of being cocooned by foliage. Tree ferns and Philodendron in the conservatory have been used as the main structure of the studio.
A multitude of climbing plants are used to decorate the restaurants in the glasshouses at Petersham. These bring colour, scent, shade and a sense of calm to the diner's experience. Within this Houseplant Studio the walls will be hung with jasmines and other flowering climbers. The narrative is one of escape from the outside world and the stresses therein. Entertaining, creativity, or mindful contemplation, each has its place within 'The Conservatory'.
