All elements of this border encourage story telling. The stepping stone entrances allow children and adults to come together from different parts of the garden and race off again following each child's own creative direction. To support this, uniform paving is interspersed with Delft style tiles depicting characters from stories children and adults will recognise. The bricks and quarry tiles carry the patina of the last century. They come from the same house in Nottingham and will be returned there after the show as a new garden feature. The bench at the centre of garden provides a focal point that tells a subtle tale of traditional craftsmanship and local, timeless materials. Planting is mainly herbaceous, telling the story of the changing seasons, with enduring trees to echo the changing appearance of a family overtime with the permanence of its essential structure.
