About this garden

The story

This garden from Bord Bia’s 'Easy Steps to Dream Gardens' series features an abundant display of planting that will provide interest throughout the year. The design is quite natural; planting is brought close to the house and is inspired by meadows with lots of flowers and grasses. The hard landscaping is simple, allowing the plants to be the main attraction. The patio closest to the house includes a bench – the ideal spot for morning coffee - while the centre of the garden features room for a table and chairs alongside a built-in bench and barbecue. Boundaries are greened using climbers rather than a hedge. There are 10 climbers in this scheme, including the fragrant Trachelospermum jasminoides ‘Star Jasmine’. Scent, often overlooked in gardens, is one of the most evocative senses and plays an important role in this tranquil space.
