The RHS Crafted from Nature Garden
The story
Visitors can expect an immersive, meadow-inspired space filled with rich textures, artisan features and wildlife-friendly planting, demonstrating how gardens can be both beautiful and ecological.
Despite being based on traditional crafts, the design reinterprets these skills through a contemporary lens. Norfolk water reed, iconic to the Norfolk Broads and traditionally used as a roofing material, has been reimagined by local master thatcher Nick Walker, into a tactile wall. Stacked reed bundles create natural screening and valuable insect habitat, while rusted steel boundaries reference the county's agricultural heritage. At the centre sits a hand-carved sculpture of two York stone benches by Norfolk master stone carver Teucer Wilson, informed by the elegant reed shapes found across the region's waterways and marshlands.
Through a renewed appreciation of local resources, the designers set out to create a garden with a strong sense of place. Their aim is to show that what is found close to home, from materials and traditional skills to plants, can inspire biodiverse and sustainable spaces for the future.
