Vihara Meditation Garden

Vihara Meditation Garden

Vihara Meditation Garden
Designed on Buddhist principles, the Meditation Garden provides a tranquil space for mindfulness, meditation, and connection with nature. Created for the Birmingham Buddhist Vihara Temple, the garden offers a serene environment to practice peace and contemplation, inviting visitors to reflect on Buddhist teachings. It demonstrates how these principles can inspire daily life, encouraging moments of stillness and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. A raised boardwalk will guide you on a journey through a naturalistic planting scheme, combining simplicity with impactful scale to evoke serenity and curiosity. The path passes a pond, fed by a stream that utilises rainwater collection, and leads to stepping stones that bring visitors to the central meditation point, marked by a bodhi-like tree symbolising enlightenment. The garden will be created sustainably using reclaimed materials, reducing the carbon footprint as much as possible. The garden’s gentle undulations offer spaces to sit or recline, enhancing its role as a space for relaxation, reflection, and mindful engagement with the surrounding landscape.
