Tackle HIV Challenging Stigma Garden
The garden draws inspiration from the significant scientific and medical advancements made in HIV treatment over the last 40 years. Today, individuals living with HIV on effective treatment can anticipate a long and fulfilling life without limitations. Tree statues serve as a solemn tribute to lives lost to HIV and the stigma that sadly persists. Hexagonal paving reflects a key chemical structure found within many HIV medications. Water flows under a bridge, symbolising the transition to a healthy life supported by community. Uplifting and inspirational words are etched around the Garden, including “Undetectable = Untransmittable” on a bench, conveying a crucial educational message about the empowerment provided by effective HIV treatment. A covered gazebo offers a tranquil space for reflection and supportive discussions. The multi-stemmed branches of Zelkova serrata stand like guardians in the garden and Eschscholzia californica ‘Red Chief’ ties the planting scheme together, echoing the red ribbon that is the universal symbol of HIV awareness and support.
