This garden is to create a uniting place for the seafarers to reconnect with the land, a place to communicate and converse along with a transition between a work space and a rest space open to all.
The garden location is to be incorporated within a larger refurbishment for the Goole Parish Church, they want to provide a space that allows the seafarers a place to break down barriers and provide hope and support from the church community. The design is to provide a practical space and its proposed location is to transition from the community kitchen garden and will have its own produce for the users to maintain and enjoy to allow them to give back to the community.
A low planting bed to the front is to represent coastal planting and the higher planting bed to the rear will provide fuller foliage to provide shelter and comfort to garden users with the option of adding in herbs and fruit trees to create the produce. A round table to provide a social space to play cards and encourage open conversation leading to a quieter sheltered seating unit (hopefully crafted from an upcycled boat).
